Ukrainian Localization: March 2022 (#71)

Greetings, dear friends!

For a lot of people this month was like a blur, a nightmare or a movie about a war that turned out to be real. However, Ukrainians cannot be broken easily, right? People survive despite the circumstances, they fry the occupiers, ban villain’s social networks, plant vegetable gardens, so they could share the harvest with the defenders and IDPs. SBT Localization team tries to continue its work on translations because Ukrainian localization is equally important.

On this occasion we would like to draw your attention to the appeal to Ubisoft regarding the Ukrainian localization of their games. Please support it on the Ubisoft website and sign the petition on Change. Please spread it among your friends, so that we gather more votes sooner and the developers would pay attention and understand that Ukrainians really care about the Ukrainian language.

And now a few words about our work in March.

Ukrainian localization

Ready to play games

Ukrainian language was added to Atom RPG. The russian invasion led to the forced relocation of the bigger part of the developers, therefore Ukrainian localization was added a little bit earlier than it was initially planned, so our work on proofreading continues. Nevertheless, we are sincerely grateful to all volunteers who helped with Ukrainian translation. Check the full list of participants on the project page. In addition, this game will soon receive Ukrainian voice acting. Therefore, the list of games with full Ukrainian localization will be expanded.

There was a release of M for Mystery DLC for Sherlock Holmes Chapter One where Sherlock is going to confront a mystical opponent. Frogwares studio says that it is the last DLC for the game. The gamers will have a pleasant entertainment. We would like to wish a lot of new brilliant projects with Ukrainian localization to the studio.

Proofreading and testing

Half of the projects are close to the final step, editors proofread translations carefully, so the gamers could appreciate the quality. It’s great to have the possibility to try the text directly and capture the moments that are invisible during other stages.

Atom RPG — proofreading is performed together with testing. It is done in Excel spreadsheet therefore the progress cannot be counted easily. Yura Dragon handles this project.

Tales of the Neon Sea — proofreading is done alongside with testing. Overall progress: 38%. Olia Khmelnytska, Taras Korzhyk and Yura Dragon did the biggest amount of work.

Undungeon — we are going to have the testing build soon; the proofreading will start right after that.

Kingdom Come Deliverance — 29% of proofreading is done. Sofia Shul did substantial amount of work during this month.

Banner Saga 3 — overall editing progress: 81%. Bohdana Vozniuk edited huge amount of text in March.

Into the Breach — 51% of text is edited. Iryna Andreieva worked on this project.

Work in Progress

Even though a lot of translators were forced to leave their homes, we are trying to keep up and promote our business. Ukrainianization of the universes cannot be stopped!

Trudograd (a huge DLC to Atom RPG that has 687,000 words) – translated 1.5%. The most active translators in March are Bohdan Peredrii and Natalia Andruk.

Baldur’s Gate II: Enhanced Edition New Content — translated 72%. Active translators — Anna Tsvira, Solomia Kotiai, Anna Chyrva, Valentyna Puryha.

Darkest Dungeon — work on the Ukrainizer is suspended in favor of official localizations.

There Is No Light — we received the next part of the text (the game is in development) and started translation. Now the volume is 62,000 words.

Curiosities

Other stuff to do during the war:

The informational and language fronts are especially important now, therefore we try to support various appeals and petitions that concern the spreading of the Ukrainian language and culture. As mentioned above, we created an appeal to add the Ukrainian language to Ubisoft games. We invite you to join our Steam community to share links of such appeals and work together to achieve our goal.

Some of our translators and editors have joined the work on the Ukrainian Vancouver website (and how else, when one of its editors is our activist and translator Yevhen Tkach). This site has started to publish translations of social networks posts that most clearly show the process of social change as a result of Russian aggression. And one of the editors of SBT Localization, Yurii Bisyk shared his own thoughts about the grief. So read and spread, let the world know and feel.

As the work of translators continues, there are interesting English expressions. This time the expression hang out to dry was analyzed.

Moreover, we prepared an article about female Ukrainian streamers. Surely the list is not complete, there are only 25 girls, so we invite you to add more in the comments.
