Ukrainian localization June – July 2024 (#85)
Report on our achievements in June–July: new Liftoff update, Ukrainian in Trudograd, the World of Warcraft cookbook etc.
By now, it’s a tradition to send someone from the SBT Localization to the Games Gathering conference. The Lviv gathering of game developers occurred on the 5th and 6th of April in the “Dnister” hotel, so it was hard to pass the chance to visit such a cool event. This time, Games Gathering was visited by Ivan Yankovyi, our tech department lead.
Spring weather being the whimsical maiden didn’t really do much to liven up the citizens of Lviv, which was likely the cause for the number of attendees. And it started snowing the next day. Ew.
Still, the atmosphere in the hotel proper was still amazing, and that’s what drives people to these conferences. A whole shoal of new games from indie developers, intriguing lectures, a sea of new connections and, of course, lots of mingling.
Buckle up!
Or some flying, perhaps?
”Azov” and other AFU units have sent their representatives to Games Gathering 2025 as well.
M-m-m, League of Legends is here as well!
It’s a not really clear who this guy is, but he seems a bit frightened. But since this is the horror games section, that’s to be expected.
Also: have you seen this girl?
Because there were two of them!
The invited guests held some really captivating lectures, especially in the green sector, reserved mostly for the representatives of small indie companies.
And those lectures were crowded too, sparking tons of questions at the end of each!
But the most interesting bit came at the end of day one. Jama Jurabaev, art director of “Lucasfilm”, explained how he had created the visuals of “Asoka” and other movies in the Star Wars universe. He also introduced us to Andrii, a Ukrainian designer from his team, who lost his sight fighting the Russians. Despite being able to speak Russian, Jama chose to conduct his lecture in English and the follow-up questions were in English as well. And there were a lot of those. This was the final lecture of the day, and it had to go a whole hour into overtime, but Jama was seemingly not in a rush and answered all the questions.
There were more cool lectures on the second day as well. One of them, concerning in-game texts, even mentioned our (in)famous creation “diyevydlo”.
Our representative even managed to ask a few questions to the hosts and share some of his impressions as well. Unfortunately, he hasn’t managed to get much in terms of photographic evidence of that.
Overall, the event was amazing. We thank the organizers for a huge positive experience and hope that the next year’s gathering will not pass Lviv by. Until we meet again!
