Greetings, our friends! We hope you stay safe and warm. May this year bring victory over Russian invaders to us all, and after that – peace and comfort in every house (and Ukrainian localization in all your favorite games).
Our localization community “SBT Localization” is working hardly to bring you an official Ukrainian translation of high-quality into both new and old videogames. We are very happy that Ukrainian language is getting more and more relevant in videogames, movies, apps interfaces and all things that Ukrainians use.
But how can we work if there is no electricity and internet? Someone would say “we can’t”. But not us! Ukrainian localization is unstoppable! The luckiest of us bought a portable generator, some of us, not so lucky but very creative, burnt their computer experimenting with car battery, some of us bought old crappy laptop and spent their days between home and public charging point. There were brave people who worked on a tablet or even a smartphone… It was rough period, but we stand tall against all odds. If our army stands, we have too!
Honestly, there’s not much to talk about. We have this project, we have that project, and that one as well, and some other ones, but, you know, we aren’t allowed to disclose anything yet… And because of this, our public projects are understaffed a bit. Anyway, our translators and editors work hard to move forward our localization effort.
Our work in December was partially covered in our 2022 year report (2022. Recalling all good things). Here we will be mostly talking about our January activity.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance — 46% (of 1,041,845 words).
Liftoff: FPV Drone Racing — 36% (of 12,236 words).
Trudograd — 45% (of 584,380 words).
Darkest Dungeon — 86% (of 92,552 words)
Planescape: Torment — 8% (of 999,290 words)
Other volunteer projects have no significant progress for now.
Don’t forget to make a pre-order!
Something not about videogames, but about things related to them.
We’ve mentioned these books earlier, but they are so cool that we can’t miss a chance to tell you about them once more.
God of War: Lore and Legends – available for pre-order at MAL’OPUS.
The Elder Scrolls: The Official Cookbook – also available for pre-order at MAL’OPUS.
A set of rules of Savage Worlds boardgame. It’s a test drive for you to try the game, feel it and get ready to spend gazillion dollars for purchasing a full version as soon as it’s available in Geekach store. For now, Savage Worlds Adventure Edition: Test Drive is available for free download here.
As for other projects – please be patient.
In January we accepted several students from National Pedagogical University of Kryvyi Rih for translation practice. As per their feedback – games localization is a bit hard, but interesting as well. And we are always glad to help – there are still so many gameverses untranslated, and much more to come! So, fresh workforce is always welcome)
If you’re interested what is an onomatopoeia and what’s its role in text, particularly in comic books – here’s an article of Solomiia Kotiai What’s this onomatopoeia thing? (Ukr).
Also take a look into our English tips column. Mike, the wandering cat, tells interesting stories from time to time that he comes to know during his travels. For example, what “get cold feet” means.
Greetings to Pavlo Kuliamin for becoming official member of SBT Localization team! His arrival is very timely for our effort, so we wish him more projects to enjoy and passion in process!
