SBT Localization: 13 Years of Game Localization

Thirteen years now drift away,
Translation lives within us each day.
Ukrainian tongue, so dear and bright,
Will fill each game with its pure light.

Today marks thirteen years since translators-enthusiasts united in the SBT Localization community to ukrainize gaming universes. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported our activities all this time. Thanks to you, we have been able to reach these heights and have the strength and inspiration to overcome new localization challenges so that every Ukrainian gamer can play their favorite game in their native language.

Over the past year, SBT Localization has translated tabletop and video games into Ukrainian, totaling 3,044,000 words. And this only counts the localizations that have already been released, such as Kingdom Come: Deliverance II and “Cyberpunk RED. Jumpstart Kit”.

THREE MILLION WORDS – HOW MUCH IS THAT?

How much is three million words? Here’s a stack of books that consist of the five books of the “A Song of Ice and Fire” series plus the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy…

Together, they have slightly more than two million words. So to this stack you need to add another one, for example 8 books from “The Witcher” series.

And overall, throughout all the years, our portfolio already includes 57 video games, 30 books (artbooks, comics, stories, and cookbooks), and 4 tabletop games. It is 14,270,000 translated words in total!

A quarter of our friendly team is currently serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine and working as military volunteers. And all of us dream of Ukraine’s victory and peaceful skies above our heads. So, we invite you to celebrate our small translation holiday by participating in a fundraising giveaway for the needs of Ukrainian military. This time, all collected funds will be divided between the charitable foundation “Come Back Alive” and a private fundraiser for the Unmanned Systems Forces.

TERMS OF PARTICIPATION

1) Transfer an amount that is a multiple of 100₴ to Monobank (4441 1111 2609 2554), and during the transfer be sure to add your contact details in the “comment” field (your nickname and corresponding social network, email, or phone number) so we can contact you. The larger the amount (multiple of 100), the more places in the participant’s list you have: 100₴ – 1 place, 200₴ – 2 places, 1000₴ – 10 places, etc.

If you forgot to specify your contact details during the transfer, then under any of our posts provide a screenshot of the transaction showing its date and time.

2) Add a comment in Ukrainian under our giveaway post (Facebook, X.com, Telegram, Instagram, Mastodon, BlueSky, Threads). This will help us recognize you among users with similar names and contact you faster if you win something.

Physical gifts are sent only within Ukraine, except for temporarily occupied territories by russians, to Nova Poshta or Ukrposhta offices.

All video game keys are intended for Steam and valid for Ukraine territory, so they may not work in some other countries.

Prizes are not exchangeable for others or for cash equivalents. If for some reason you don’t like the prize you won, you can always give it to one of your friends as a gift.

Prizes can be received within two weeks from the announcement of results.
