Ukrainian Localization: September – October 2023 (#81)

Greetings, friends! We hope you are warm and safe. Just as the Armed Forces of Ukraine are relentlessly and persistently defending Ukraine, SBT Localization is working tirelessly to Ukrainianize game worlds. So, further on, we will briefly tell you about our work and new achievements in translation projects.

OFFICIAL RELEASES AND UPDATES

First of all, we would like to brag about our work on the Cyberpunk 2077 expansion pack, “Phantom Liberty.”

We are very proud to have worked on such a cool project. It was an extremely interesting and exciting experience. We are thankful for all your feedback. We are also sincerely thankful to CD Project for such a wonderful experience and wish them many more interesting and profitable projects that will have Ukrainian localization.

At the end of the project, we met the Cyberpunk 2077 localization project manager, Mariia Strilchuk. We had a nice conversation and exchanged gifts.

Nevertheless, we are not saying goodbye to the Cyberpunk world, because we are working on translating rules for the Cyberpunk roleplaying system. You can already purchase the quick-start booklet “Cyberpunk RED Easy Mode” on the Geekach website.

We have also finally released the Ukrainian localization mode Banner Saga 3.

Download, install, and enjoy the saga in Ukrainian.

We are planning to work on the other two parts as well because their texts contain some elements from the Banner Saga 3 text. However, since the official localizations are the priority, we can not say for sure when it will happen.

The work on Baldur’s Gate 3 is in progress, as the updates with various gameplay and translation improvements are still being released.

Just in case, here is a reminder: if you want to report an error, please send a screenshot along with a description of the error to the #baldurs-gate-3 channel on Discord or our website on the “Contacts” page, selecting the subject line “Report an error in Baldur’s Gate 3.”

In the meantime, we would also like to remind you about the Baldur’s Gate 3 Wiki in Ukrainian language. In October, the number of the created articles exceeded 200. We invite you to participate and become contributors to the Ukrainian Wiki and thus contribute to the progress of the game universe Ukrainiazation!

Fans of Jim Francis’s comic book Outsider have a great opportunity to re-read the first two chapters in Ukrainian. Now all the translated pages (prologue, chapters 1 and 2) are available in one file.

All the pages that did not have captions or effects translated into Ukrainian before have been updated.

EDITING AND TRANSLATION

The situation with the volunteer projects looks like this:

Liftoff: FPV Drone Racing — additional text translation is fully complete, and editing is 71% complete. Main text translation is already available in the game.

Atom RPG: Trudograd — 98% translated.

Planescape: Torment — 16% translated.

OTHER ACTIVITIES

The beginning of the fall was quite eventful. To start with, SBT Localization representatives visited the “Dice Con”, the board and role-playing game festival in Lviv.

It was a great opportunity to communicate with the board game fans and give a lecture about our translations of Baldur’s Gate 3 and Savage Worlds system rules. To find out what was interesting at the festival, read Ivan Yankovyi’s review: Dice Con 2023: НРІ, косплей та крута музика.

We are always happy to share our practical experience with the future reinforcements of the Ukrainian localization army, so traditionally, in the fall, students come to our organization for an internship. This time, in September, Master’s students from Kryvyi Rih State Pedagogical University came for an internship, and since October, third-year students from Ternopil National Pedagogical University have been trying their hand at game texts as part of the practical localization course. We also held several private lectures for students online and one live lecture on the specifics of video game translations.

In October, on the occasion of Defenders Day, we held a raffle to raise money for the Come Back Alive Charity Organization. And for our Patreon and Buy me a coffee supporters, we held a raffle for the Cyberpunk 2077 + Phantom Liberty bundle.

A little later, we created a page on Donatello. This is a Ukrainian platform for supporting various content creators, so if you don’t like Patreon and Buy me a coffee, but would like to support our work, we invite you to join us there.
