Ukrainian Localization: Spring – Summer 2025 (#89)

Well, spring is ove… What? It’s summer already, and it will be over soon as well? [Pauses for a moment.] It seems like time flies unnoticeably when you are undertaking the Ukrainization of the game universes! During spring and summer (June and July), SBT was actively working on translations to draw video games closer to Ukrainian players. This period was full of memorable releases, inspiration, and team synergy. So, we kindly invite you to recall the last months’ brightest moments and exult over the achievements of the Ukrainian localization!

UNDERDOGS

Our portfolio got a new addition, another VR game. Duels in a backstreet megapolis await you in Underdogs. Control your mech, dodge the hits, and strike back. Become the best arena fighter!

PLANESCAPE: TORMENT

Planescape: Torment is almost a classic among games that are based on the D&D system. Travel through the planes of the Forgotten Realms and investigate the deep and complex story of the Nameless One.

The text has almost a million words (999,000), and our volunteer translators have been working on it for nearly two years.

Ukrainian localization will be added a bit later; meanwhile, you can already use our Ukrainian localization mod and play Planescape in Ukrainian. The translation will be updated constantly based on the mistake reports from the players. To inform us about the mistakes, go to our Discord channel #planescape-torment.

Not without reason, this game is called Torment, because the texture localization in the menu was quite hard. You can read about this adventure in the article by Serhii Olendarenko – Texture localization in Planescape: Torment.

CITY TALES

If you like city-building simulators, take notice of City Tales. This game was translated in cooperation with RiotLoc. The game is in early access, so the content will be updated from time to time.

BECOMING SAINT

Becoming Saint — another Ukrainian localization in cooperation with RiotLoc. According to a divine precognition, you have to found a new religion and become a saint. Fill the ranks of your sect, conquer the cities, and broaden your influence.

STRONGHOLD CRUSADER: DEFINITIVE EDITION

After working on Stronghold: Definitive Edition, we were happy to translate Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition as well. This time, the game invites you to experience all the Crusade hardships. Choose for yourself what armies you are going to lead: crusaders, Arabs, or Bedouins. Win in historical campaigns, play with a friend or AI-lord, and build the castle of your dreams in a desert setting.

What are we working on

Volunteer projects give us the opportunity to take a break between pursuits of deadlines, but also to keep our translation skills in top shape.

DARKEST DUNGEON

According to the results of our patrons’ voting on Patreon, we have started doing the translation of the Darkest Dungeon DLCs, namely:

• The Crimson Court
• The Color of Madness
• The Shieldbreaker

The work is nearly completed, so expect a patch update very soon.

THE BANNER SAGA

While some are finishing up their Darkest Dungeon files, others have begun working on the first The Banner Saga. Localization was planned as official, and following the developers’ instructions, we initially worked on The Banner Saga 3. Unfortunately, nearing the end of work on this project, the developers’ company faced some unexpected changes, and the project was shut down, but we were recommended to create a localization mod for the players. And that is exactly what we are doing!

Board Games

Cyberpunk RED. Jumpstart Kit

This board game, based on the “Cyberpunk Red” role-playing system, will take you to the world of the dark future, cybertechnologies, and evil megacorporations. Jumpstart Kit booklets will tell you of the Cyberpunk world and game rules; it will also steer you in the right direction in different situations. It is time to gather your friends and embark on a cyber adventure!

The translation of the main rulebook for “Cyberpunk RED” is still in process, because there are a lot of pages. In the meantime, Geekach is already preparing a new game, so stay tuned.

Savage Worlds Adventure Edition

Also check out “Savage Worlds. Adventure Edition. Core Rules.” But why is the book on its own without any maps, tokens, and cards? Because the book doesn’t need anything, the Savage Worlds system is universal and can be easily adapted to any world and adventure. Just take some dice and a deck of regular playing cards. And if you don’t want to keep looking in the book, get yourself some power cards.

A little bit later, you can await the rulebook of the Deadlands. It is a game in the western, horror, and steampunk genres that also works with the Savage Worlds system.

Other Activities

Visitis

In April, our representative, Ivan Yankovyi, visited Lviv for the Games Gathering event. Despite the nasty weather, the conference was a blast. — Games Gathering 2025 Lviv.

And in June, we had our own booth at the Kyiv Festival FanCon 2025. Those two days were full of activities, and our SBT members – Ehor Vlasov, Bohdana Vozniuk, and Iryna Andreeva, despite being tired, also got a lot of positive impressions not only from the festival itself, but also from the communication with the guests who approached our booth. — FanCon 2025.

Raffles

We held a couple of raffles, where we gathered money for the needs of the Ukrainian soldiers – Charity Foundation “Спільнота Стерненка”, Charity Foundation “Повернись живим”, and we also took part in the fundraising “Книголють 3.0” and a private fundraising for the Unmanned Systems Forces.

We also raffled off several gifts for our Patreon supporters.

Altogether, we were able to raise ₴368,000!

Students

In spring and summer, students from the National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute” and Bila Tserkva National University had an internship at SBT.

Young translators worked on different genres of video games under the supervision of our curators, Sofia Shul and Bohdana Vozniuk. The students carefully completed the tasks, refining their technical and literary translation skills and learning the subtleties of localization work. Without a doubt, some moments posed difficulties, but all of them were successfully battled – appropriate adaptations and correct formulations were selected, a ton of internet resources were searched through in the chase after the needed context.
