Ukrainian Localization: August – October 2025 (#90)

Autumn blues? No, the SBT Team is not affected by such phenomena. And when is there time to be blue if there is a plethora of gaming worlds that are begging to be ukrainianized! The sun gives us energy, the rain hides the tears, and the fog hides the sorrow. Who is bored while taking shelter? Definitely not an SBT member! Thanks to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who skillfully destroy russian drones and missiles, we incessantly work on the Ukrainization of the gaming worlds—with electricity or without, on a computer or on a phone (our favourite Crowdin has a pretty convenient mobile version!).

So, what interesting things happened in the past months? About what achievements can the SBT Team boast?

VIDEOGAMES. FINISHED LOCALIZATION

SPELLFORCE: CONQUEST OF EO

For more than a year, we have been working on the translation of the sequel to SpellForce, which is a series of popular strategic games. Our benefactor, Vasyl Zubko, has proposed to us its translation, and the developers ensured flexible modification tools. Despite its genre, SpellForce: Conquest of Eo has a rich plotline that evolves throughout the series and has 300 thousand words.

You can download the modification from our Google Disc or from Nexus. With the appropriate level of interest, the developers can add the translation to the game officially. So, download it, like it with the “endorse” on Nexus (the possibility is available after 15-20 minutes after the download), and enjoy Ukrainian in the game.

BALDUR’S GATE 2: ENHANCED EDITION

Even though Baldur’s Gate 2 is an old game, Beamdog has nevertheless started an integration process of the Ukrainian localization in the game. The process will last a couple of months, so you can use our new updated patch to already play the game.

DICE LEGENDS

Dice Legends is a roguelike deckbuilder game of the Ukrainian-Polish team of developers. It is a whole magical journey that will charm you with its soundtracks and interesting adventures. At first, you play as a lion paladin, who makes meatballs from his enemies with his hammer, and after you get two other characters: a frog assassin, whose poison will get even the most protected enemies, and a raven wizard, who can summon demons to his assistance.

DARKEST DUNGEON: DLCs

All the Darkest Dungeon DLCs are translated. Download the updated Ukrainian localization mode and set off on an adventure in the darkest of dungeons.

FTL: FASTER THAN LIGHT

FTL: Faster Than Light Ukrainian localization mode is updated. Now the mode is working with the newest game versions on Steam, GOG, and Epic Games. The fonts are reworked to resemble the original ones.

ZONE. THE SECRET OF CHORNOBYL

In January 2026, we await the release of the board game “ZONE. THE SECRET OF CHORNOBYL” from the publishing house “Geekach”. If you are a fan of games like S.T.A.L.K.E.R., this board game is perfect for you and your friends. Be quick enough to preorder while there is still time.

THE ART OF S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: HEART OF CHORNOBYL

And in February 2026, THE ART OF S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: HEART OF CHORNOBYL should be released. Preorders are available on the Malopus website. The book will not only be an asset for the fans of the game, but also a source of memory and information about a destroyed part of the Ukrainian culture.

THE ART OF THE KINGDOM COME: DELIVERANCE 2

We will have to wait a little longer for this art book than for the previous one, because it is going to be released not earlier than April 2026. But the book is worth it, as it tells a story of a long and meticulous game development process: how the materials were sourced, how the historical figures were recreated, and how every detail of the design was thought through. Preorder of the art book “THE ART OF THE KINGDOM COME: DELIVERANCE 2” is available on the Malopus website.

WHAT ARE WE WORKING ON

BANNER SAGA 1 & 2

Work on The Banner Saga is almost finished. All in all, the Ukrainian localization mode is ready and being tested; it is going to go public a bit later. Nevertheless, as a nice bonus for those who read our reports, we are giving you a link to the mode. But don’t tell anyone!

Meanwhile, the translation of The Banner Saga 2 reached 59%.

OTHER ACTIVITIES

VISITS

In August, our SBT team members were in Lviv and attended the board game festival Dice Con. Our game master Yevhen led the games “Among the Dandelions” and “Forgotten Park.” Overall, the event was successful, and we had a lot of fun.

In October, at the invitation of the Ministry of Culture, we took part in a forum, “Ukrainian – the Language of the Strong,” and spoke about the importance of the Ukrainian language in video games and their influence on young people.

“Game localization is not just a business, not a whim of a tiny community, and not just “some fun”. It is a strategically important part of our cultural battlefield and a struggle for our identity.”

In particular, our presentation was about the fact that video games became a powerful tool not only for recreation, but for learning and self-development as well. And our goal as Ukrainian localization specialists is to ensure that the players are fully immersed in the game world, to make it natural and understandable. Because a good translation has an educational effect, shapes the thinking, “normalizes” the language, and is a factor in a cultural deoccupation.

ARTICLES AND VIDEOS

In August, we joined the discussion with KotyGamesUa about the Ukrainian localization—Ukrainian localization. Myths and reality.

In October, our Boo, the most intelligent hamster in the world, talked about the usage of hyphens and dashes. You should read it as well, check and/or solidify your knowledge.

STUDENTS

In September, we held two lectures on video game localization for students of the Ternopil National Pedagogical University and Bila Tserkva National Agrarian University. Following this, a couple of the Ternopil National Pedagogical University students have already applied for an internship in SBT.

We are always happy to share our practical experience and help future colleagues gain experience in video game translation.

RAFFLES

In August, the raffle, dedicated to the 13^th anniversary of SBT, came to an end. We raised 185 thousand hryvnias and divided it between Come Back Alive Charity and a private fundraiser for the Unmanned Systems Forces.

And in September, we joined the “Fundraise for the Superheroes”, which was organized by FANCON with partners. Thanks to our community’s efforts, we managed to raise 94 thousand hryvnias.

We are happy that we can help our defenders at least a little bit.
